Shortly after the founding of the NEV in 1845, work began on building a club library. Over the years it has grown into one of the largest entomological libraries in Europe. In addition to its great scientific value, the library is also of cultural-historical importance, which is reflected in the many hand-colored editions, manuscripts and plates from the 18th and 19th centuries that are present in the collection. Since April 2014, the library has been on loan to Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden.

The collection includes 840 current and 1900 closed periodicals, 30,000 books and approximately 100,000 reprints. Almost all journals that regularly publish on any facet of entomology are present. The NEV library also tries to acquire journals with at least 25-30% entomology. The collection of books in the field of entomology is very complete, and almost all older, valuable entomological works can be found in the library.

To search
Most of the titles in our collection have now been included in the integrated web catalog of the Naturalis library N=Library
The old NEV catalog can also be consulted here. Although it is no longer maintained, it offers a complete overview of the works from before 1800.

NEV members can make free use of the wealth of data stored on a 2.2 km bookshelf. Newly arrived magazines are available for inspection on the reading table. Loans are possible to Dutch and Belgian members (for the conditions, see the lending regulations). Producing scans is free, but you can make photocopies at cost price. The library also has a photocopying service. Members may be asked to identify themselves with their membership card.

The library can be visited by appointment (in principle from Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.). The books and magazines to be consulted must be requested in advance via
